I need this module in a Backdrop CMS project I am working on, and will be porting it for that purpose. This will be a barebones port to begin with but may be generally useable in time.
It appears just config management has changed -- my preliminary port works as expected.

The issue above is closed, and the code linked does not work for me in Backdrop CMS. I intend to add my port to the backdrop-contrib module space eventually.
