Personally, I think this feature request is outside the scope of the module. Have you tried the Entity Usage module → ?
In a site with multiple editor, it would be nice to being able to see where the media is used , before choosing to overwrite it.
Alternatively, it would be useful to have a module option defining in which cases the replacement is allowed
- only for media that is used once
- or only for media that are used in content that i have edition roles
