dmaps project open to new maintainer applications on 30 Sep, 2021

Maps for Drupal has been automatically opened to new maintainer applications, as it will otherwise become unsupported with the end of life of Drupal 8 on 2 Nov, 2021.
This is an adaptation of our existing process for transferring project maintainership .

After the standard 14-day waiting period from this issue being opened, if an existing maintainer has not closed it, this project is eligible for new maintainers, without necessarily waiting for existing maintainers’ approval.

Next steps:

  • An existing maintainer may close this issue and opt out of this accelerated process.
  • A prospective new maintainer can take this issue after the 14 day window has
elapsed and take the following steps to be added as a maintainer:
    • Comment here explaining why you would like to maintain the module.
    • If the project is opted in to security coverage, confirm that you have previously received security coverage opt-in permission.
    • If an existing maintainer has not commented, move the issue to the Drupal.org Project Ownership queue, by editing the “Project” field on this issue.
  • The Drupal.org site moderators will review the issue, and if it meets the requirements can grant you maintainer access.

    Hi everyone,

I am extremely interested in becoming a maintainer and contributor for the Maps for Drupal module as a part of the development of GMaps .

Although I am relatively new to contributing on Drupal.org, I have experience in Drupal module development (for D7, and D8, D9, D10), and I believe I can make a valuable contribution toward porting this module from Drupal 7 to newer versions.

I have already started analyzing the module, and at first glance, it was quite challenging—it seems that no active development has been happening for some time, which makes things a bit unclear. However, I see significant potential in its further development and improvement.

My current experience includes developing and maintaining the TMGMT iLangl module. As part of that work, I also helped it achieve Security Advisory Policy compliance (special thanks to @podarok for making it a reality). Now, I am eager to expand my contributions further by collaborating on this project.

I have the ambition to be part of something great, and I clearly see that in the Drupal community and this module’s future.

My main goals for maintaining this module include:

    • Actively contributing to porting it to the latest Drupal versions
    • Ensuring Drupal 10 compatibility and preparing it for future releases
    • Reviewing and fixing open issues and bugs
    • Improving documentation to make it easier for developers and site builders to work with the module
    • I would love to collaborate with any past or current contributors to improve this module in any way I can.

If anyone has insights or guidance, I am eager to learn, contribute, and make a meaningful impact.

Looking forward to your feedback and hoping to become a valuable part of this module’s future.

    Thanks!
