Node validation failure causes scheduled transition date/time changes

Problem/Motivation

When a scheduled transition has been saved but the node form fails validation, any scheduled transitions are changed to January 19, 1970 at 7:32 AM.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to a node form page.
  2. Leave the Title field blank.
  3. Set a scheduled transition and save.
  4. Save the node.
  5. Validation of the node should fail because of the empty Title field and you will notice the scheduled transition date changed to something like "January 19, 1970 at 7:32 AM".

Proposed resolution

I assume the values are getting lost because of the page refresh when the node is saved. Need to investigate a better way to handle this issue.
