The D9/10 version of this module does Not work at all, literally does nothing, I dug through the code a bit to verify. You may want to put some information on the module page about that. For anyone else looking for this functionality for there upgrade to D10, I found the Book Access Code module: https://www.drupal.org/project/book_access_code → . Not quite the same thing but will get me by for now with some modifications. I haven't found anything else that does Book permissions like this, so if that doesn't work, you will probably have to code your own module to suit your needs. Hoping this will save others time spent trying to figure out what is going on here.

Sorry to hear that. I'll mark it unsupported for now.

The port of this module from D7 to D10 is incomplete.

All that was done was lolcode ran the drupal module upgrader script on the D7 code. There's still work to do, see the code comments in 1.0.x
