Error when enabling subscribe example module.

Problem/Motivation

I am just trying to wrap my head around the Message modules. After finding the message_ui module which isn't pulled in by composer; i tried out the message_subscribe_example module. Haven't checked out if any of it works yet; but on enabling it (with drush), i get:

 [error]  The field_node_reference entity reference field (entity_type: message, bundle: create_node) no longer has any valid bundle it can reference. The field is not working correctly anymore and has to be adjusted.
 [error]  The field_node_reference entity reference field (entity_type: message, bundle: publish_node) no longer has any valid bundle it can reference. The field is not working correctly anymore and has to be adjusted.
 [error]  The field_node_reference entity reference field (entity_type: message, bundle: update_node) no longer has any valid bundle it can reference. The field is not working correctly anymore and has to be adjusted.

Steps to reproduce

Enable the module:
drush en message_subscribe_example
