It only works for images. Media entities can include any type (video, audio, pdf, etc). So, we cannot do that.
The easiest way for you would be to create a custom token and set the correct text via token hooks.

Because Drupal uses Media in core it would be nice to support these token.
Try to use Image Hover Effects as a display formatter for the Media type "image". The side-wide token are not working.
