BEF 5 Breaks Search API Autocomplete

When BEF is used on a Search API filter of a View that has autocomplete enabled, the autocomplete functionality no longer works.

To reproduce:

  • Create a Search API Index View with full text search exposed filter
  • Install/Enable the Search API Autocomplete module
  • Select the above View for autocomplete
  • If you just Preview the View you will see the autocomplete functionality
  • Now change the Exposed form style to Better Exposed Filters
  • Autocomplete no longer works
  • Switch the Exposed form style back to Basic or Input Required
  • Autocomplete works
