I successfully tested it on my site; I'll tentatively set the issue status to RTBC.
The 2.0.x branch already has
hook_discourse_sso_parameters_alter, so this issue only affects the 7.x branch.
The Discourse SSO system allows for the assignment/removal of groups as well as many other fields which aren't included by this module out of the box.
Attached is a patch to include an alter hook which lets a custom module assign group memberships, profile pictures etc.
