Add sort order option to default widget

Thanks everyone! I made a couple minor adjustments and added the new setting to the schema. I tested manually and this should work fine with existing installs with the last patch, but feel free to test and/or review the changes in the issue branch commits.

Merged to dev. I hope to tag a new release soon.
