Supersubs may not be working on 3rd menu level

I have three menu levels. In the third level, the width of the UL is always narrower than the widest LI such that its text flows outside the UL box.

I have adjusted the supersubs min width - the UL width changes only when the minwidth > longest LI, just like it should.
I have adjusted the supersubs max width - when maxwidth varied from 11 to 26, the UL width varied accordingly, when the any LI was larger than the max width; the text of the lengthy LIs extended beyond the UL box. From maxwidth=27 through 300, there was no change in the UL width indicating the longest LI was less than 27 em, and yet the widest LI extended beyond the UL box.

Not knowing whether this switch would impact the outcome, I tested with both "Use sf-AutomaticWidth plugin for this menu" checked and unchecked. It appeared to make no difference.

When I inspect the page, I can't see anything that might be capping the width of the UL such as custom CSS or other scripts. It appears to be a calculated width and so I assume the supersubs script is doing its thing.

This happens only on the third level menu. The 2nd level menu behaves as it should.

What else can I look at or look for to determine why this is happening?
