It would be fantastic if we could choose a specific display mode for the dialog, when having the events open in a dialog. For example, my preference would be to show a teaser in the dialog, so visitors can see a summary and then click through to the full node if they want more detail.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
I understand the approach, but again, this just feels like a workaround. If you're doing anything remotely complicated, you quickly come up against limitations from using views to write HTML/Twig templates. This is why Views supports rendering display modes. IMHO this module should also support rendering from Twig files as well.
