Now CEB already allow creating custom fields (not base fields), that stored via Drupal in separate SQL tables, and make entities not so lite. So maybe also allow creating bundles per entity type for CEB entities?
Sometimes they very needed in one-two entity types, together with many light CEB entity types, and installing separate ECK module for implement those bundles is too heavy way.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
It is fixed in the dev version, there is a Mode option when user create a custom entity type, choose "basic plus" which is support bundles.
There are 4 options:
Basic: the original way
Basic Plus: Basic + bundles support
Advanced: Full function entity type without revisions support.
Full: Full function entity type like node.
