Empty viewfield displayed regardless of settings

When a viewfield is empty, it is still rendered on the page. I've tried removing it from any field groups and checking/unchecking the "Always build output" option on the viewfield display setting that fixed the other issue linked below.

Also tested:

In the views field settings - "Hide empty fields"
In the view block settings "Hide block if the view output is empty: Yes"

Neither of these hide the view.

The "information" field group horizontal tab only contains a viewfield that is empty/has no values.
The empty viewfield still shows/is printed on the page even when taken out of the fieldgroup.

But.... I have a view (a block) with "no results text" that i want to show up when there are no results.
