Ultimate Cron only runs while I'm logged into the site

We no longer have access to crontab so we switched from Elysia Cron to Ultimate Cron. As we understand it, 7.x-2.8 no longer needs the Background Process and Progress modules to run in the background. However, we have found that Ultimate Cron only runs upon logging into the site. Also, "Serial" is the only option we see under Launchers - Default Launcher and Settings - Poormans Cron.

Any advice on how to get it to run in the background? We have lengthy cron jobs that need to run overnight with Unix-style crontab settings.

I'm closing this since Drupal 7 is now unsupported and there will be no more development on the Drupal 7 branch of Ultimate Cron either.

Thank you for taking the time and effort in reporting this issue, even though it never got resolved.
