Commerce integration

The commerce integration works great and takes appropriate payments however because the variant price isn't set zero pricing information is available when looking at orders.

Before I delve in I was wondering if there was specific thinking/reasoning behind not setting the price of the variant BEE creates, perhaps due to the quantity calculations? Or was it just done because it's a lightweight connection and that was all that was needed to get payment functionality working?
