Before building the URL of the image, need to be sure the current image toolkit supports that Uri.
Such check need to be added to the template_preprocess_colorbox_formatter().
Example can be found in /core/modules/image/image.module:314 inside the template_preprocess_image_style() function.
It's necessary to support the SVG image → module. Because GD2 does not support SVG images.
