Apply image style or responsive image style to Media image field display

I have been experimenting with using Media fields limited to images, instead of using Image fields. However, the process of setting an image style that applies to only one Media image field and not to all Media image fields seems overly complicated and a confusing departure from the way Image fields have always worked in Drupal.

For example, if I add a Media image field to a content type, and then go to the Manage Display tab, I am not given an option to set an image style. Instead I am given an option to choose between view modes. If I go to /admin/structure/media/manage/image/display, I see that I can set an image style that will be applied to all Media image fields per view mode and I can create new view modes. This is a confusing extra step in the process of creating image fields and it seems like a step backwards in usability.

Is the expected process going forward that we create a new view mode for every Media image field we create if we want to use image styles or responsive image styles?

    Hello,
    I agree with the non intuitive setting to display image style for a media image library item.
    The setting by the admin/structure/media/manage/image/form-display is an issue too, because it affect all images from media library..instead of setting image style (and more) for media fields into content type separately.
    I guess there are some modules to avoid this and make it more easy to use, because it's a no go for non drupal aficionados :/
