AJAX error when switching date formatter

When I switch the field format to "Simplify" the AJAX request fails with a 500 error. The error message is:

IntlException: Constructor failed in IntlDateFormatter->__construct() (line 279 of .../vendor/openpsa/ranger/src/Ranger.php).

I'm using Drupal 8.6.0-alpha1
