Several reporters have had issues getting LDAP query running when used by other modules, such as the periodic user update mechanism or Views integration.
It would be ideal to attempt to avoid this by either checking common mistakes or adding some fields always. This is potentially non-trivial due to the various combinations of accountName accountId, puid, etc. which can or cannot be in use in any given site, which could cause issues. (The required elements of user mappings might be a useful guide here.)
