As explained in my feedback issue 2955228 →

If the machine name of the content type "Product display" is not equal to the machine name of the corresponding "Product variation",

It causes 2 related issues:

- Products displays nodes are migrating, instead of being skipped.
- Products attributes are not recognized, they are migrated as regular fields in the variation.

PS: in Commerce 1.X there is no constraint on the same machine name, they could be different.
And also it's not 1:1 relation, we could have several content types referencing 1 or several product variation types.
