Marking all 7.x as out of dated. If problem persist, then only a new issue.
Just updated to 7.x-2.2. Running Drupal 7.56.
After installing new files and running update.php got the following message:
An AJAX HTTP error occurred. HTTP Result Code: 200 Debugging information follows. Path: https://www.example.com/update.php?op=selection&token=8rS0iJsW1Ye5sXD7R8... StatusText: OK ResponseText: Updated field_image Updated field_fyi_thumbnail Updated field_cosmetic_thumbnail Updated field_cosmetic_image Updated field_image_details_pics Updated field_teaser_thumbnail {"status":true,"percentage":"100","message":"Completed 2 of 2.\u003Cbr \/\u003EUpdating image_field_caption module"}
Following the message I believe a link was offered to take me to the "errors" page. I followed that, the reporting on that page seemed normal.
I'm under the impression I haven't lost any functionality of this module with this update.
Getting the message is not repeatable.
Not sure how important to take the event. Not even sure it's directly related to this module.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
