FTP module upload error message needs improving

When trying to install a module I get this error:
Error installing / updating
File Transfer failed, reason: Cannot create directory /Library/WebServer/Documents/cardiff_renting/modules/custom_search

I changed _www user to have write access.

The error message needs to say which user can't create the directory. Otherwise it's a wild goose chase. I've seen lots of people resort to chmod 777 because of this, so this error message is encouraging poor security.

The message could also link to some documentation on the common reasons for this error, e.g. file permissions.

It seems nobody takes error messages seriously. They seem boring to get right, but it helps so many people to improve error messages. I have to keep going on about this for the good of Drupal, and for the lessening of the learning curve, and wasted development time.
