Needed something like this for a site, but needed the field formatter to show/hide the truncated version of the field on the same page, not link out to a separate entity.
So I've got an initial attempt at merging this with some of the stuff Mike Miles presented at dcnola .
Could probably use some work, and/or inclusion of different effects (fades/slides), but hopefully this patch gets the ball rolling.
