Integrate with Inline Entity Form for Adding and Editing

I think that replacing the redirect to the entity add/edit form using Inline Entity Form → would greatly improve the UX for this module.

I could just use Inline Entity Form, it allows creating and editing existing entities, but for my use case, it adds two extra steps and the risk of deleting the referenced entity if it's already present. It uses autocomplete for selecting the referenced entity.

Right now, I'm using Entity connect together with a select list styled using Chosen, as this imho looks much better and doesn't affect performance for lists of less than 100 items. The select is populated by an Entity Reference View, so the list can be styled, doesn't depend on a single field for a selector and doesn't show the (id), something that often confuses users.

Has anyone else tried something like this? I see there was some interest to integrate with References Dialog, but imho this would make an even better UX. I'll try to put together a patch but don't feel too confident about it yet, I've done minimal module coding/patching, so any help/interest in this would be greatly appreciated.
