Share Count On Custom Buttons

We can have custom buttons. We can have share count. But we can't currently have both. I know it's possible if you manually implement sharethis widgets, but not sure how to get it done via this module.

I'm currently doing all my modification by implementing theme_sharethis() in my theme (I prefer this approach instead of .js). Is there a way to add sharecount to this theme function when using custom icons?
