We are not regularly seeing packaging errors now.
Drush has reports of MD5 failing when downloading dev snapshots. The attached patch stops updatexml from running when the packager has an error.
Note that there are errors shown at https://www.drupal.org/admin/reports/dblog → when you filter by the 4 'package' components.
