Some wants to override a path coming from an existing route of another module. "admin/content" is a good example for that. Fine, views takes over the route,
but the question is what should happen with the menu link.

Unless somebody comes up with a reason to change whatever we've been doing the last 10 years, I'm going to go out on a limb and say, we just keep doing what we've been doing until now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
