Hi,
I am the author of the Crumbs module, and I am wondering if we can get some kind of cooperation going ..
I think the main difference is that Crumbs plugins only ever specify the direct parent of a path, whereas with Panels breadcrumbs, the user can specify a complete breadcrumb for a specific page. (very much like Path breadcrumbs, right?)
This can be regarded as either good or bad:
With Crumbs it is typically less work to get the breadcrumb you want. But you have a difficult time if you actually want diverging breadcrumbs: E.g. Home » A » C
on page C, but Home » B » C » E
on page E. I have not really seen a relevant use case for diverging breadcrumbs, but maybe there is one..
So far, Crumbs does not have anything specifically designed for Panels pages.
We are probably going to get manual path parent mappings like here,
#2008514: Add manual path parent mappings →
. But this will not have the same feel as directly specifying the breadcrumb on the panels page.
And I would rather reuse something existing, than reinventing it myself :)
The idea I have is that when both modules are enabled, then Panels breadcrumbs can hook into the plugin system of Crumbs.
The glue code could live either in Crumbs or in Panels breadcrumbs.
The big question is: If you have both modules enabled, do you still want to specify the entire breadcrumb on a panels page, or only the direct parent and link title? Or, if you do specify an entire breadcrumb, then do you want Crumbs to use all of that and ignore everything else, or would you only use the direct parent, and then let other Crumbs plugins take over?
Of course, if only Panels breadcrumbs is enabled, then it may happily do its standalone thing.
