Neclimdul and I ran into a small issue with accessing the returned object working on a project of ours in that only the video was themed when a filter was applied. We are asking for the entire returned object to be available in additional preprocess theme functions.
We found it useful to add the object to the $var array before theme_oembed was called. Its a simple thing so a patch should be available shortly to add this in for everyone to enjoy.
