Ability to disable infinite carousel?

Upon upgrading to 1.2, our image gallery got completely borked due to the inclusion of the infinite carousel plugin.

We have our gallery styled such that the thumbnails aren't in a film strip, but rather were stacked in a grid. With infinite carousel there's no way to achieve this look as it forces a film strip effect.

I've just commented out the infinite carousel stuff out of galleryformatter.js, but it'd be nice to have an official method for turning it off that doesn't require hacking the module.
