Is there any way to display an image link instead of hotlinking an image?

After installing the oEmbed module and applying the oembed-catchall-1539632.patch from the "Embedding any URL" issue, the oEmbed link field will display pretty much anything I've thrown at it. Which is obviously some kind of wondrous magic.

The problem is that it hotlinks images served from third party servers, which can represent an ethical/legal problem in some cases. My desired result would be that a title-link to the source is displayed instead of the image itself.

So I've been checking out the code for the module, hoping to modify it, but it seems that it's going to take more than my introductory level PHP-skills and knowledge of Drupal plumbing. :-)

Could anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction to a solution?
