First off, thanks for a nice module. Made it so simple for me to do what I needed!
When that has been said, I'm having a hard time to see why the user should be the one, who knows the entire URL for his/her profile on the different site. As a user I normally know my username, but I hardly have a clue how the social sites structure their URL's.
I think it would make way more sense if the user only were to enter his/her username and the site URL already provided for the networks, would know the structure (as in http://youtube.com/user/:username, https://twitter.com/:username, http://myskype.info/:username, and so on) for viewing the profile. This seems more intuitive and is for instance the same way iOS contacts works in iOS 5 for social network links.
This would heighten the usability, and make the code a lot simpler, as input validation could be minimized a lot, as you wouldn't have to check for http:// or the domain. An idea could be to differentiate between inputs with and without http://. For http:// everything would work as normally, but without it would work as stated above. Just for backwards compatibility and for people wanting to link to a specific page by adding more the base URL.

It's likely this issue predates Contrib.social: some issue and comment data are missing.
