Cron and workflows instances ?

Problem/Motivation

Hi - I am wondering if cron has any connection to the workflows table 'forms_steps_workflow' ?
My issue is, I have some nodes (an application content type) that somehow loose their workflows instance, and then go back to the regular Default form mode.

Is there anything that could delete or remove a workflows instance from a node, in the forms_steps_workflow table?

I have used the drush command to reestablish the workflow instances in some cases but, trying to hunt down why they might vanish?
