Link to the contribution record in the issue sidebar

Created on 4 September 2025, 12 days ago

It took me far too long to figure out how to navigate from an issue page to its contribution record. I first looked for a link from the issue update form, and then I looked to the links section of the right sidebar. I never thought to look between issue fork details and the comments section. πŸ˜‚

I propose two UX improvements here:

  1. Add a link to the issue update form where we used to manage credits. It can be as simple as, "Credit for this issue is now managed on a contribution record page."
  2. Link to the contribution record from the actual issue metadata. I can think of a couple of ways to do this, e.g., adding it as a row to the metadata block or just moving the current "button" link over there, though I do think it's odd to have a new / unusual link format specifically for the record.

My preference would be the link option in the metadata block. I tried with "Contributors:" as a label, but it was too long ... could be used if you don't mind tweaking the widths there a little bit.

It also could be nice to show a count if we want an actual statistic in the link, but that would require actual engineering work I'd imagine. (For example, "Credits: 3 contributors, with the link going to the contribution record ... I just don't like that you'd then end up with a link that isn't immediately obvious as the way to get to the contribution record.)

Moving to the right project where we build that link.

Issues will be moving very soon to GitLab issues (the new Contribution Record was the final blocker to do this).
I would suggest against making a request to the new site to extract information.
