Webp check delaying script execution

Problem/Motivation

After installing this module, we noticed a visible (about a second) delay in the page rendering and script execution, and traced it back to the webp check of this module's Javascript.

Steps to reproduce

We just installed the module, and there it was.

Proposed resolution

Remove the webp check.

Can I use reports that webp is supported by all major browsers since september 2020. We're almost 5 years later, seems enough time has passed to drop this check.
