SSL Protocol Error

Problem/Motivation

Free version of GTranslate no longer seems to be working on websites without a paid subscription

Steps to reproduce

install module on an existing Drupal 10 site. Widget loads, but trying to translate does not trigger

Console error:

GET https://translate.google.com/translate_a/element.js?cb=googleTranslateEl... net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

ANy suggestions? Has anyone seen this before?
