Accessibility Issue: Screen Readers Always See All Menu Items

Created on 1 March 2025, 3 months ago

Problem/Motivation

There is an accessibility issue with the main menu in the DXPR theme. The "toggle menu" function works well for sighted users, but screen readers for blind users always perceive all menu items, regardless of whether the menu is expanded or collapsed.
In contrast, other Drupal themes like Oliviero handle this correctly by ensuring that screen readers only detect the menu items when they are actually visible.
Could you please investigate this issue and implement a fix to improve accessibility?

Steps to reproduce

Go to my test web site:
https://test.nvda.it
try to open and close the main menu, you can use also your smartphone screen reader like Voiceover or Talkback.
I tried it with Voiceover for iPhone and NVDA for Windows.

Sorry, it seems that also visually main menu remains always expanded.
Can you check the website and tell me if you can exapnd or reduce the menu?
My screen reader find the "toggle menu" button, but it seems not working, at least on my opinion.
