UI/UX of the "Ready to update" Warning toggle

Created on 20 February 2025, 3 months ago

Problem/Motivation

Improve module update interface to help new users.

Steps to reproduce

I'm playing around with Drupal CMS 1.0 locally. Base install, no content types or recipes added.

When I elect to update some out-of-date modules, I end up at a screen that looks like this:

That unchecked "Warning" toggle is confusing.

That red asterisk is non-intuitive. I think it means this field is mandatory, but it doesn't say that anywhere on the screen. Certainly, clicking on "Continue" without toggling that field, pops up a tooltip error that says "Please tick this box if you want to proceed".

That tooltip error; it's not a "box", it's a toggle.

The UI for this page generally feels flaky and could be vastly improved.

Proposed resolution / User interface changes

Some combination of the following:

  1. Add something else next to the toggle, with the warning displayed below. Perhaps "Given the warning below, please confirm you want to continue."
  2. Add a "You must toggle this box before continuing" to explain the asterisk.
  3. Change the pop-up to "Please toggle this field to accept the warning".
  4. Change the UI completely to have the "Continue" button greyed out, making it clear that you need to indicate your acceptance of the warning before continuing.
