https://www.drupal.org/project/govuk_theme → is packaged with a version of the proprietary "GDS Transport" font, and uses it by default.
The theme's /assets/css/style.css
contains the following comment:
Copyright (c) 2011 by Margaret Calvert & Henrik Kubel. All rights reserved. The font has been customised for exclusive use on gov.uk. This cut is not commercially available.
The theme's font directory does not contain any additional licensing information, nor does any readme file.
Acceptable use of the GDS Transport font is described here: https://designnotes.blog.gov.uk/2015/03/11/can-i-use-the-gov-uk-fonts. It states:
The GDS Transport font files are licensed for use on the www.gov.uk, *.service.gov.uk and *.blog.gov.uk domains only. For services publicly available on different domains, use an alternative font like Arial.
I believe packaging this font with the theme is a drupal.org violation, and using this theme on any other site than the mentioned gov.uk domains would cause site builders to (inadvertently) violate the font's license.
Install theme. Font is used by default. Or see /assets/css/style.css
.
Remove the packaged font from the theme and add instruction for legitimate gov.uk site builders on how and where to find the correctly licensed fonts files.
