Totally applaud the initiative.

But words such as 'academic' and 'universities' have me wondering. Is this elitist? Please don't misunderstand me, we need to push hard the open source message into those environments, but is there a case to broaden the potential availability of this project. Maybe Drupal inquisitives (and potential future evangelists) may not come through the same route.
