@unrealauk thanks very much for this contribution, I think that actually this would be a great thing to get into the base class, in the https://www.drupal.org/project/imageapi_optimize → module.
It could have a method that checks the filesize, as you have here, and looks for a class variable with a value to check against.
Then services like reSmush.it here could simply change that value to the service appropriate filesize.
Are you able to work on that?
