Find a way to use Field Protect on widget-less fields (like user email)

Problem/Motivation

Great module!
My use case: It would make a great UX for the User email field ("a change must be confirmed").
That field does not have a widget to configure thouth.

Maybe this issue is to be postponed on a core issue (i dimply remember there was one, but could not find it)
