User role mapping is not inherited?

I have checked 'automatically connect existing users', but it does not seem to use the existing user, but to create another user and match both the existing one and the newly created openID user. This creates user role mapping issue that new openID user account does not use the same user role from the existing user. It looks like a single user, but it behaves like two different users.

Is there any way to sorta 'merge' two accounts? At least, it would be ideal to use the same user role from the existing one.

    Just tested out the overnight dev version. I can confirm that a new OpenID user role is now mapped to the existing user account.
    I think the issue can be closed, once the dev version rolls out.
