Pseudofields, including those made with the Extra Field module → ecosystem, are a core feature often used to display computed or other content that should not have a corresponding edit field (or vice versa, but that's not relevant to Field as Block).
This feature was added to 7.x and 8.x-1.x #2091113: Support pseudo fields →
But seems to have been lost in the new approach in the 2.x branch.
