Unable to update Viewpoints with weird machine names

Problem/Motivation

Installed on our BHM client site. The viewport names that were generated were LONG and WEIRD. When I tried to edit them, I get error messages, and cannot edit machine names.

Steps to reproduce

On install of module, viewports are created:

I try to edit this viewport:

This yields an error:

It looks like we are creating impossible machine names, and are unabled to edit them.
