How to check the ping.php is working?

I try this module in the production but it always stop the interval of auto refresh when the internet are fails so need to reload the page to reconnect the ajax refresh which is that so bad, is there anyway to keep the connection??? So it Will automatically reconnect again after the internet fail automatically? Should i use ping.php ? Because i try to use ping but always fail i still don't know how to use it the instruction is not clear enough for me and don't know how to check when it working or not?
