Actually, issues with & can be solved by using "plaint_text" filter. You just need to remove auto-p/br and url to wrap filters from text format.
Here is an example:
{{ content.field_band_headline|render|striptags|trim|check_markup('plain_text') }}
Update Readme to show another ad-hoc way to fix, module is useful when you need to do that many times.
