Stopwords are being indexed and highlighted

Setup

Solr version: 9.6.1

Drupal Core version:9.5.11

Search API version:

Search API Solr version: 4.3.5

Configured Solr Connector:Basic

Issue

I am using a Fulltext string field for my body text and the stopwords are still being indexed and highlighted. I tried different field types too and reindexed each time. I feel like there is something I am missing or else other people would be reporting issues with the stopwords.
For example:
If I search for "Oregon" vs "Oregon the", the results are different and some results appear as if they are appearing because of "the"; which is also highlighted.

You should use the analyzer to check if the stopwords get removed as expected or if your filed type is mis-configured.

The Highlighter works on the original unmodified text.

The stopwords were not actually being indexed. The highlighter was confusing me and your clarification pointed me in the right direction!
