As of today, I am unable to reproduce this problem using the latest version of this module (3.0.0-beta5) with Drupal 10.4. My Views configuration was as follows:

Format: Unformatted list Show: Reference | Citation Fields: The selected style or row format does not use fields. Filter criteria: Reference: Published (= True)
